Those suffering from exhibitionism usually start the behavior during their adolescence. Most exhibitionists are typically well-educated and have high moral standards, but they may lack sexual confidence and find it difficult to achieve sexual satisfaction in traditional ways. Some exhibitionists have a history of brain damage, substance abuse, or other disorders. Others have severe epilepsy or abnormal brain electrical activity.
Celibacy
In the context of the current sexual deviant crisis, a senior Catholic church official in Munich, Germany, has suggested that mandatory celibacy may have contributed to the abuse of minors. He said that abusive priests use celibacy to “embed” into the system and take advantage of the weaknesses in that system. While celibacy is not directly linked to sexual deviancy, it may contribute to the culture of mystery and difference.
